In de berm

Een lange stoomtram getrokken door de kubistische tramlocomotief HL 303 komt ons in de berm van de weg tegemoet. Als voorlaatste rijtuig bolt een fraaie vierasser met middeninstap mee, de overige rijtuigen zijn de karakteristieke Belgische tweeassers met boorgruitjes. In vroger jaren was vrijwel gans België ontsloten door stoomtramwegen. De berm van de steenweg was de eenvoudigste en goedkoopste plek om de stoomtramlijn te positioneren. Op de museumlijn van de ASVI tussen Thuin en Bièsme sous Thuin heeft de tram geen last van autoverkeer. Hier ligt de tramlijn naast een Ravel, een lange afstandspad voor het trage verkeer zoals wielrijders en voetgangers. Temidden van die weggebruikers voelt de stoomtram zich volledig thuis.
