Inside the Zaouia of Sidi Mehrez - a photo on Flickriver

            This was during one of my last days in Tunisia. I was exploring this part of medina that I still hadn't visited, closer to Bab Souika and the iconic Sidi Mahrez Mosque which, unfortunately, I couldn't visit inside.

This picture was then taken inside the Zaouia of Sidi Mahrez. One of the rooms with a big, decorated dome (the one in this picture) I found particularly beautiful. To enter I had to go pass some elders on the door and perform some simple ritual I can't exactly recall right now. I think I had to drink some purified water and definitely take my shoes off, but I'm not totally sure.

Inside another adjacent elongated room, there was the coffin with the saint (Sidi Mahrez). People gathered there for their own different reasons, most of them praying. I stayed inside for some minutes and joined them in their prays.

Once outside I commented with a nearby group how enchanting was that whole place. They're eating something and even offered me a piece. This is what I like about exploring new places, especially alone. Out of nowhere, simply following your feelings, you find places you'de never expect that surprise you. You irradiate positivity and meet new people effortlessly. You just make your own day spectacular and self-amusing.  Your vibe is topping the charts. Those are the ingredients for some of the best days.
