            I had a nice lie-in and a bath, and put on my new T-shirt - with the added extra of my Advent badge :-) 

It started me thinking about the word 'Christmas' meaning 'celebration of Christ' and that even when people shorten it to Xmas, it can still mean the same, as the Greek letter at the start of Christ is X. Of course, X can also stand for 'mistake' when writing or marking work, and for 'multiply' or 'unknown' in mathematics. It's how we mark our ballots when voting, it's used to mark the treasure in maps, and it can signify a kiss. I'm sure several sermons have been written about all that! Anyway, I'll stick with celebrating Jesus.

However, I've become much more comfortable with separating the Christian celebration from the secular one. I almost wish there was more separation! After all, we don't know when Jesus was actually born, so it's only celebrated on 25th out of tradition - one possibly started by the Romans in about 354CE. In the northern hemisphere, I think it's a good idea to have a celebration near the winter solstice, when we can look forward to lighter, warmer days returning!

Not sure why I got into all that - perhaps because I didn't go to church this morning, so had time to ponder! I'm feeling better, but still in need of a bit of a rest before the busyness of the week starts again.

Oh, and I had my Covid booster jab in Cirencester this afternoon.
