A dream came true

Back in April, my dream came true but before I’ll tell you what exactly had happened, I need to make a confession.

I am into true crime. The topic of people deciding to commute crimes (especially multiple and severe ones) and the justice system that pursuits them fascinates me. I guess the topic of justice is one of the most intricate and fragile ones in the world.

I’ve read a bunch of books that made an attempt to dive into the mind of the most notorious serial killers, trying to answer the question: ‘what makes people go nuts?’, listened to hundreds of podcasts on the topic with first accounts and binge-watched rather disturbing documentaries. All these things were not enough because I needed the real talk - a talk with a law enforcement representative where I could be given a chance to ask questions that were haunting me.

Long story short, my best friend knew this obsession of mine (how couldn’t he? If I kept talking about the most disturbing cases every single time we met) and organized a skype talk for me with a forensic analyst from the US. Let’s call her Z. because I guess I can’t disclose any names and places, plus it makes my story more mysterious, so why not?

A forensic analyst is a person who collects all evidence from the crime scene, analyses it and whenever investigators need information on the case, they contact a forensic analyst. That is proved to be a convenient system since there is a person who accumulates all detailed information on cases and since some cases take a rather long time to solve or, in the worst-case scenario, some become cold, there is always a person with the responsibility to preserve the info.

To characterize the talk as mind-blowing and eye-opening means to say nothing. I was given a lifetime opportunity to ask my questions. Some were stupid, some provocative, others were naive, but practically more than half of them were about the attempt to understand human nature.

That meeting meant the world to me.
