Por un agua de hastío voy moviendo estos remos,
que pasan tanto al irme y tan poco al volver;
pero quizá un día no nos separaremos,
mujer mía y ajena, como el amanecer.

No importa que me quede ni importa que me vaya,
mientras pasan las nubes sin dejar de pasar,
porque tu corazón es igual que una playa,
que, pudiendo ser tierra, nunca llega a ser mar.

Tu amor nunca responde cuando mi amor te nombra;
tu amor, que sin ser mío, tantas veces perdí;
y yo empuño los remos y viajo hacia las sombras,
pues todo se hace sombra si estoy lejos de ti.

Tu amor es un remoto país desconocido,
más allá del mañana, más allá del ayer;
y ya sólo recuerdo las veces que me he ido
recordando las veces que tuve que volver.

Hay virtudes tan tristes, que es mejor ser culpable,
y más si es una culpa de amor amarte así;

Ya me duelen las manos de remar en mi hastío;
pero yo sé que un día dejaré de remar,
y he de mirar el mundo como si fuera mío,
y romperé los remos en la orilla del mar...
