Just One Thread

            Taken in my back garden Araneus diadematus the European spider hand held using a Canon 5D MKIII and the new Canon 100mm macro lens. Natural daylight with a black piece of card to give a clean background.

There are many of these spiders at the moment I thought I may as well see if I could capture one in a worthwhile image.  I liked this due to the single thread it was hanging and how clearly each of the web threads can be seen extending from its legs as it pulls the web towards itself as it eats the web. 

I have been told by a friend of mine Peter Warne (Flickr: Peter Warne-Epping Forest) who knows much more than I do on animal and insect matters that this spider is probably nest repairing and using the old protein from the damaged web to generate new material.
