Rock Garden II - a photo on Flickriver

The east side of Morro Rock has many such vignettes on boulders, which are probably the result of blasting. Other similar boulders were removed to build breakwaters/jetties nearby (and as far away as Port San Luis). More soil has developed on the south side of the Rock and so there are a variety of plants. But here, where it is still mostly rock, just the early colonizers, lichens and these Dudleyas. Botanists disagree about Dudleya species ID, but I'm guessing these are Dudleya caespitosa, Coast Dudleya. And at least most of the lichens are Niebla homalea, Armored Fog Lichen.
