Cigarette Break for the International Criminal Court

This photo was taken at the march for ceasefire in Gaza and the liberation of Palestine, which took place in London on the 3rd Feb 2024.

The banner reads:
"What the actual f**k is the International Criminal Court doing? Are they on a cigarette break or something?"

Note that the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) are two different Courts.

South Africa brought a genocide case against Israel to the ICJ and at the time of this march the ICJ already ruled on the implementation of provisional measures to prevent the genocide of Palestinians.

As to the ICC, see this statement:

"On 17 November 2023, my Office received a referral of the Situation in the State of Palestine, from the following five States Parties: South Africa, Bangladesh, Bolivia (Plurinational State of), Comoros, and Djibouti."

"In receiving the referral, my Office confirms that it is presently conducting an investigation into the Situation in the State of Palestine. This investigation, commenced on 3 March 2021, encompasses conduct that may amount to Rome Statute crimes committed since 13 June 2014 in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. It is ongoing and extends to the escalation of hostilities and violence since the attacks that took place on 7 October 2023."

3 February 2024 - date of London march

The casualty figures since escalation and as of 4 February in Gaza are:
- Killed: at least 27,365 people (including more than 11,500 children and 8,000 women) at a rate of 228 per day.
- Injured: more than 66,630 people (including at least 8,663 children and 6,327 women) at a rate of 555 per day.
- Missing: more than 8,000 people, at a rate of 67 per day.
