Splashes of Green

            The day before our flight over the river deltas, we spent the night at the Skaftafell campsite since it is located close to the terminal. After a hot shower in the nice facilities and a quick dinner, we took a look at our map and found that the famous Svartifoss is very close to the campsite. Further research then revealed that the trail to the waterfall actually starts right behind the campsite.

So we set our alarms early, but didn’t manage to get up and missed the sunrise. Nevertheless, after a short hike we were the first to get there, but the sun was already illuminating a larger part of the basalt columns to the left of the waterfall. I therefore searched for more intimate compositions and got really excited by this formation of straight and slightly inclined stone columns. Not only their formation got me excited, but also the shimmering bluish color of the stones that were soaked by the spray from the waterfall. And on top of that, a few plants growing through the cracked basalt added a really nice accent of color and provided a beautiful color contrast. So even though I didn’t get the “classic” image, I’m really happy with this more abstract one. I hope you like it too!
