            Mono Lake South Tufa State Reserve.  Leaving Bishop behind, I drove north on Highway 395 up to Mono Lake.  As noted in my previous travelogue (Pine Creek), the first major winter storm of the season was blowing in, and as I ascended in elevation the snow began to fall.  It made for some dicey driving (saw a spinout or two as the snow iced over faster than it could melt on the roads), but Mono Lake itself was just barely below the snow level by maybe a hundred feet, so once I was over the pass and past a little bit of snow on the roads, I descended down to the lake itself for my next destination: The Mono Lake Tufa.
