Dactylorhiza majalis- Broad-leaved marsh orchid

Dactylorhiza majalis is widespread across much of Europe and north-central Asia, from Spain and Ireland to Siberia and Kazakhstan. I found the orchid in the Dolomites at around 1800m altitude. I used a black reflector behind the flower and underexposed by 2 stops. The advantage of the technique is that you can get the whole flower sharp with good isolation and without any fear of creating a busy unattractive background. The disadvantage in my view is a less natural studio look. I rarely use this technique now and try to shoot into a shaded background instead, if possible, and accept getting only part of the flower in focus.
