Western pasqueflower seedhead - a photo on Flickriver

            Anemone occidentalis, the western pasqueflower, is a plant in the buttercup family Ranunculaceae. Some authorities place it in the genus Pulsatilla. The photo shows a seedhead in late sunlight. What I thought was a seed botanists call an achene, a dry, one-seeded fruit.  Fruits of the Western Pasqueflower are clusters of single, plumed achenes that generally persists into fall. The Western anemone is native to western North America from British Columbia to California and Montana.
