Thelymitra aristata- Great sun orchid

            Thelymitra aristata is a sun orchid species that is endemic to south-eastern Australia. It has blue or purplish flowers with darker veins. The flowers are insect-pollinated and open on sunny days. I used the equivalent of a 300 mm tele lens here which gave a good dof and pleasant bokeh, something that is harder to achieve with a shorter focal length. However, the flower does become isolated from its surroundings which can be a bonus when it reduces the distraction of a busy background. Recently I have started to experiment with wideangle macro which gives good dof as well and it is showing blurred surroundings which works well if the background is attractive.
