High Hopes

            Day 40 - February 9, 2010

I'm from the Philippines, and our national elections are coming up in May. Today marked the official start of campaign season with each of our 10 presidential candidates (yes TEN) participating in some fancy proclamation rally of their own.

I took this shot on my way up from our basement parking lot at work. From the large glass pane that lit up the stairwell I saw the Philippine flag, flying majestic with the wind as if it were calling out to me.

I believe the timing couldn't be more perfect. Our flag soaring high is very much reflective of our nation's hopes and dreams for change and for a leader who can stir the country out of this slump and towards greater heights as a nation. 

As corruption is very much ingrained in the system, it will take a great and strong leader and a lot of uphill climbing to get the job done. But I have high hopes that this leader is out there, that change is indeed possible, and that the future we so desire can become a reality.  
 
PHOTO NOTES: I did NOT add texture to this photo. That grain-like quality is actually dirt on the glass pane. I actually have some shots where the glass looks clear (and the dirt not visible) - but I like the natural textured effect and feel that it gives the photo much more character. What do you think?
