Celebrating Anglo Argentinian realtions.

            This statement may sound a little odd to those of us with a long enough memory to recall the events of the Falklands War (or as the Argentinians refer to it the English War). The 74 day conflict of 1982 over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands certainly took relations to a terrible level. The issues over sovereignty of those islands still rumbles on, but I have to say after spending a good deal of time in Argentina we only ever came across goodwill and friendship. Long may such a relationship continue. 

So why upload a photo of a clock tower. Well, located in a small but neat park right outside the main railway station in Buenos Aires the Torre Monumental, also known by its original name Torre de los Ingleses, or English tower, is a monumental built in Renaissance-style. The clocktower was completed in 1916 as a gift from the Buenos Aires' British community to celebrate the centenary of Argentina's independence. A little akin to the Statue of Liberty provided by the French to America to celebrate their independence.
