Secadero de sardinas, Nazaré (Leiria, Portugal)

En la playa de Nazaré todavía sobrevive la tradición de secar sardinas al sol colocadas en paneles rectangulares de red llamados "paneiros".

Ligada a esta tradición está un arte de pesca artesanal con red de arrastre, llamada "xávega" o "varredoura", que está en proceso de extinción y que consiste en desplegar una red en forma de círculo desde la playa mediante unas barcas que se adentran hasta un kilómetro mar adentro y que se recogía antaño tirando de ella unos bueyes, sustituidos después por tractores. Actualmente es algo residual e incluso se hacen representaciones para que el turista vea una tradición que se remonta a la noche de los tiempos y que desaparece.
