The group of ten on the way to the 1345’ summit of Valencia Peak. On this Valencia Peak hike and Photo Walk, a nine-year old visitor on today’s hike looked up from the trail about two-thirds of the way up to the top of Valencia Peak and exclaimed “Wow, it’s a valley of flowers!”which said it better than our official theme of “it’s a botanic garden all the way up.” Montaña de Oro State Park, Los Osos, CA 08 July 2011.

ccnha.org/awn/descrip.html#275 Hike through plants of the coastal scrub community and up exposed rocky ridges to the almost 1350-ft. summit of Valencia Peak. We will point out plants along the way, and hope to spot some birds, including birds of prey. Those interested in photography will get some tips on capturing images of landscapes, plants, and more. Meet at the Valencia Peak trailhead 100 yards south of the Spooner Ranch Hours, across from the Bluff Trail at Montana de Oro State Park. Wear sturdy hiking shoes, layered clothing, and a hat; bring sunscreen and water. Optional: hand lens, binoculars, digital camera. (Strenuous) 4 miles, 3 -4 hours (we took 4 hours today 08 July 2011).
