TITLE: WORK OUT HIKE: COON-RATTLESNAKE FLATS-BLUFF LOOP (park 3.8 miles from MdO entrance sign)
Description: 5 miles, 600 feet elevation gain, 2 1/2 hours. We head north on the Rattlesnake trail past environmental camp #4, turn onto Badger trail to the Valencia picnic bench. From here we access the new trail to the ranch house and return on the Bluff Trail to the parking. Wear sturdy shoes and sun protection, bring water, snack, trekking poles if desired. There may be ticks and poison oak on the trail. You can find all our hikes posted at ccspa.info/awn/.

We are a group that loves to hike and get our exercise out of doors. We are sponsored by the Morro Bay, CA Museum of Natural History, Adventures with Nature (AWN) walk series. We meet 3-4 times a month. Our hikes are moderately strenuous, 4-7 miles with elevation gain. The majority of our hikes are in Montana de Oro State Park. The hike leaders are Virginia, Alice, and Mike. These "Workout Hikes" have become among the most popular series of walks offered by CA State Parks, representing a previously unfilled need to "go somewhere in our beautiful State Parks where you might not have gone by yourself, with like-minded people, with whom you can share the astounding beauty and awesomeness of the experience" (our proud theme). Eff. 12/6/12, the work-out-hikes Yahoo! Group groups.yahoo.com/group/work-out-hikes/ calendar and event email reminder service has been de-activated. Our Workout Hikes continue as always, but they will be posted only at the official site ccspa.info/awn/ (That's the Central Coast State Parks Association, our related non-profit organization, which used to be branded ccnha.org for Central Coast Natural History Assoc.). This change means that you will not receive automated email reminders for each hike, so please add the events you want to attend to your personal calendar.
