D5353 (27 007) having seen better days stabled in the siding at Ropley

            Acquired by the Mid Hants Railway shortly after the railway opened its eastern extension from Medstead & Four Marks to Alton in 1985, former British Rail Scottish Region class 27 diesel locomotive D5353 (formerly 27 007) is seen looking very sorry for itself in its very faded 1960s BR green livery stabled in the locomotive storage siding located to the east of Ropley station in August 2002. Worthy of note is the recess for the former tablet-catching apparatus beneath the driver's cabside window; this system being used on the scenic lines in the remote Scottish Highlands during the 1960s before this tablet-catching equipment was phased out during the early 1970s. Since this photo was taken D5353 was broken up for engineering spares and eventually scrapped.
