RT 1705 and RT 2177 at Peckham bus station

This view of privately preserved RT 1705 and RT 2177 parked up in the bus parking bays at Peckham bus station clearly shows the difference in bodywork design between the post-war Saunders bodywork on RT 1705 on the left with its characteristic upper deck roof number blind box alongside a typical standard Park Royal bodied vehicle in the form of RT 2177 on the right. Also on the Saunders bodied RTs the canopy line on the front nearside above the engine was slightly thicker than that of the Park Royal and Weymann bodied RT examples. In my view the fleet of RTs fitted with the front roof number blind box looked very elegant and stately in their appearance, with these RTs being occasionally nicknamed 'Top Hat RTs' by the enthusiasts and bus crews.
