Red kites at Gigrin Farm 2021 009_8424

A feeding centre for red kites was established at Gigrin Farm, Rhayader, Wales, in 1993 at the request of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Every mid-afternoon throughout the year hundreds of red kites will descend on the farm on feed on beef that is scattered on the meadow for them.

The birds swoop on the food, grasping the scraps in their talons and soaring high again to eat their prize on the wing.

The kites at Gigrin Farm are native to Wales and have not been introduced from elsewhere in Europe. These magnificent animals are entirely wild and are successful scavengers.
