Great Asby Scar, Yorkshire Dales National Park near Tebay, Cumbria, UK

            These very straight dry stone walls on the hillside always catch my eye when driving north along the M6 motorway (or from a train on the West Coast Main Line), just leaving the Lune Gorge. 

Great Asby Scar is an area of limestone pavement on the north side of the River Lune's upper valley. More specifically, this summit is Beacon Hill (392 m), 10.7 km from the camera (on Greyrigg Pike, towards the southern end of the Gorge) and overlooking Orton village, just off the left of the image.

The background hills are the North Pennines, on the far side of the Eden Valley. The lower hills to the right, catching sunlight, are Burney Hill (426 m, 31.4 km away) to the left of Knock Pike (398 m, 29.7 km). Cross Fell (893 m) fills the horizon, 35.6 km away.
