Baines Cragg, Forest of Bowland near Lancaster, UK

            As the front of falling snow advanced up the headwater valley of the River Conder, the sky darkened considerably but an ambient glow remained, so both the highlights and shadows, and even the colour, in this view were muted.
Sound can be muffled and deadened by snow; it seems something analogous can happen to light.

The background is Cragg Wood, on the northern flank of Clougha, just outside Lancaster.
