'Colour My Life' seen from Hulme Street (beside Medlock Street), Manchester, UK

            I haven't been able to identify the designer of these five acrobats (beyond 'Townshend Landscape Architects', which can't be right), but it seems they're either collectively entitled 'Colour My Life' or part of a larger project by that name.  Installed in September 2010, they were unveiled (well, the bubble-wrap was removed) in November.

Needless to say, I disagree that their cost should have been reallocated to something as mundane as public toilets, an utterly soulless suggestion I really have encountered and rejected with contempt and pity.
These statues line the main pedestrian entrance to the forthcoming First Street redevelopment of access to Manchester city centre; they already lead people to the building temporarily accommodating Council services departments and, subject to planning permission, will stand directly outside the new home of the Cornerhouse arts centre and Library Theatre.  Of course public artwork is required; something as joyful as this troupe of colourful, leaping figures is an entirely suitable use of regeneration funding.  This genuinely brightens a (very) wet February day.

The Manchester Central Convention Complex (formerly GMEX) is in the background, beyond the elevated railway line.
