IMSA Weekend at VIR - a photo on Flickriver

            Went up to VIR - the Virginia International Raceway to see the IMSA races today, 26 Aug 2023. I hadn't been to a race with a camera since 1992, and even that was a one time thing, in the rain, back in the film days, so this morning, I was just guessing on even where to start for camera settings....

I don't intend for this to be a Canon "commercial", but that how it's going to be. The Canon R5 and the RF100-500L lens are *so* good that the camera basically told me, "You do the composition, and let me work the exposures. I got this." Even the focus, the R5 literally has a "vehicles" setting, so if it sees a car in the viewfinder, it locks it up - and it virtually never misses. Of the 1600, or so images I took today, the camera had less than a 1:100 "miss rate", either for exposure, or focus. 

And I challenged them. Here's one of the IMSA P3 Prototypes rounding a corner early in the morning, before the sun came out. Marginal lighting, high speed, and high movement in relationship to the camera, relatively high ISO, close range, and me just having stepped out of the car after driving up, was about the toughest that I could give the camera and lens today, and they responded. 
(I, on the other hand, will happily admit to a much higher "miss rate" for cutting off the nose or tail of the cars, or trying to pan at a *really* low shutter speed. I'm way out of practice.)
