Latokartano rapids in Salo, Finland - a photo on Flickriver

            FI: Latokartanon koski sijaitsee Kiskonjoessa Lounais-Suomessa, Salon Perniössä. Koski on yksi näyttävimmistä koskista Etelä-Suomessa. Sen putouskorkeus 500m matkalla on noin 16m. Sen kuohut ovat näyttävimmillään keväisin ja syksyisin. 

Paikalla arvellaan olleen mylly jo 1300-1400-luvuilla ja 1556 myllyä vastapäätä joen toiselle puolelle rakennettiin saha. Paikalla on ollut myös viinatehdas. Kosken äärellä olevat rauniot ovat peräisin 1805 rakennetusta myllystä, joka oli toiminnassa vuoteen 1962 saakka. Suuri tulva vuonna 1966 vaurioitti pahoin myllyä ja tuhosi kosken patolaitteet. 

Kosken alue on luonnonsuojelualuetta ja suosittu retkeilykohde. Raunio on suojeltu historiallisena kohteena.

DE: Latokartano-Stromschnellen befinden sich in Kiskonjoki im Südwesten Finnlands im Perniö, Salo. Die Stromschnellen sind eine der spektakulärsten Stromschnellen in Südfinnland. Die Fallhöhe auf dem 500m Weg beträgt ca. 16 m. Der Schwall ist am spektakulärsten im Frühling und Herbst. 

Der Ort soll bereits im 14. und 15. Jahrhundert eine Mühle gehabt haben, und 1556 wurde auf der anderen Seite des Flusses ein Sägewerk gebaut. Es gab auch eine Brennerei vor Ort. Die auf den Stromschnellen liegende Ruinen stammen aus einer Mühle aus dem Jahr 1805, die bis 1962 in Betrieb war. Eine große Überschwemmung im Jahr 1966 beschädigte die Mühle schwer und zerstörte die Staudammausrüstung der Stromschnellen. 

Das Stromschnellengebiet ist ein Naturschutzgebiet und ein beliebtes Wanderziel. Die Ruine ist als historische Stätte geschützt.

EN: Latokartano rapids are located in Kiskonjoki in southwestern Finland, in Perniö, Salo. The rapids are one of the most spectacular rapids in southern Finland. Its fall height of is about 16m on 500m way. Its surges are most spectacular in spring and autumn. 

The site is supposed to have had a mill as early as the 14th and 15th centuries, and a sawmill was built on the other side of the river in 1556. There has also been a distillery on site. Those ruins on the rapids are from a mill built in 1805, which was in operation until 1962. A major flood in 1966 severely damaged the mill and destroyed the rapids’ dam equipment. 

The area of the rapids is a nature reserve and popular hiking destination. The ruin is protected as a historical site.
