            The name Jaguar is derived from the Native American word 'yaguar', which means "he who kills with one leap". Most Jaguars are golden with distinctive rosettes while some Jaguars appear black, this is known as melanism. A Jaguar will eat anything it can catch, but prefers large prey, such as tapirs, deer or cattle, the later causing conflict with man. Jaguars are solitary animals who live and hunt alone, except during mating season. Usually a litter consists of 1 to 4 cubs. Jaguars have the strongest bite force of all cats and like other 'big' cats they can roar. They are found in the remote regions of South and Central America.
