The long New Zealand summer - a photo on Flickriver

            The Whangaparaoa Peninsula is situated just 40km north of Auckland city (although i feels as though it takes a lot longer!) The bay pictured above is called Okoromai Bay - which is directly opposite the more well known Army Bay. I'm not sure you'd swim here, but the sheltered nature of the surrounding geography and convenient tree induced shade, make it a stellar picnic spot.

The peninsula stretches east for 11 kilometres into the waters of the Hauraki Gulf to the north of East Coast Bays. The island of Tiritiri Matangi lies three kilometres off its eastern tip. At the end of the peninsula (too the left of the picture) is Shakespear Regional Park; Which i really need to go explore.
