Variegated Crimson-White Summer Rose Flower - Barton - ACT - Australia - 20160221 @ 15:41

            This post is all about colors.

So far, I'm very happy with the color performance of my "new" Hasselblad 500C/M camera + CFV 16 II digital back combination. This image of a Crimson-White Summer Rose flower supports this position. My other camera - i.e., the camera on my iPhone 6s Plus, doesn't perform at all well with images like this that have red objects as a major component. The red color is always blown out (i.e., overexposed and overly saturated). In contrast, this is a very faithful reproduction of the actual color. I don't know whether to attribute this to the sensor type (i.e., a CCD sensor in the CFV 16 II sensor compared to a CMOS sensor in the iPhone camera), to the differences in the characteristics of the IR filters employed in the two cameras, or the differences in processing of raw image data in the two cameras. It is probably a bit of each of these factors!

The Hasselblad camera images all have very rich colors, whether I use the Hasselblad Phocus software or Adobe Lightroom to produce images from the raw 3FR files. Fortunately, this is something that I like in my photographs!

I have also noticed that the on-screen colors and lighting for the same image on my MacBook Air 11" (2014 model) and my iPad Mini with Retina are significantly different. The later are darker and more saturated. Neither screen in calibrated, so I cannot determine which is closer to the standard representation, and hence which device I should favor in terms of optimizing the lighting in images that I post-process and post to social media.

- Hasselblad CFV II Digital Back for Hasselblad V mount camera 16MP (2008).
- Hasselblad 45 Degree Viewfinder PME-45 42297 (2001).

Post-processing ...
Finder - I removed the CF card from the digital back and placed it in a USB card reader. I then used Finder on my MacBook Air to download the raw image file (3FR extension) from the card.
Phocus - Imported the 3FR image. This was automatically converted to a FFF file. Made various custom lighting adjustments in the "Modify" module. Output the image using a custom preset that specified JPEG format using the "Maximum" quality option (4080 x 4080 pixels).
PhotoSync - Copied the JPEG file to my iPad Mini for the final processing steps and posting to social media.
Investigator - Located where I made the photograph using the mapping option and added the geographic coordinates to the EXIF data.
Photoshop Express - Cropped the image, retaining the square format (2896 x 2896 pixels).
ExifEditor - Copied the EXIF data from the Investigator output image to the current working image.
