Old C&O Railroad Pole Line, Carey, Ohio

Wyandot County, Ohio

In this shot shows a pole used along the CSX Columbus Subdivision (former C&O) just north of Carey, Ohio where highway 23 crosses the line.

On the bottom two buckarms are the signaling circuits and AC 440 volt power circuit supported by the porcelain insulators leading to a relay cabinet for the signals. The top crossarm was for the former communication lines of telegraph and telephone and were taken out of service a few decades ago. The top crossarm has seven CD 154 blue aqua Lynchburg glass insulators that were very common along this line, especially south of Fostoria, Ohio.

Notice below the AC 440 volt power circuits are two ceramic fuses and a transformer. The transformer was used to avoid bringing the 440 into the sensitive relay cabinets. These were used at all signal locations. The pole line came down a few years after this shot was taken.

In the comment section is one of the blue aqua Lynchburg glass insulators I found along this line just south of Upper Sandusky, Ohio May 15, 1999.
