Twilight In The Sierras - a photo on Flickriver

            One of the reasons I was looking forward to visiting Yosemite during the Summer months this year was to gain access to two roads that were closed when I visited in February.  One was the Tioga Pass, which I used to drive to the Tuoluome Meadows, and the other was the road up to Glacier and Taft Points, which are closed during the winter due to the heavy snow.  

This was the first time I had ever been on the Glacier Point road and I had no idea of what to expect other than a few shots I had seen before driving up.  I can honestly say that photographs can't really do this area justice as the views are jaw dropping in every direction.  After spending several hours shooting from Glacier Point, I came back two nights later only to be completely shocked at the views from Taft Point, which was a few miles further West.  From Taft Point, there are several spots that simply drop off one or two thousand feet.....straight down to the valley floor!   No guard rails....no walls.....just sheer terror in all directions.  SO amazing! 

The shot above is from Glacier Point and if you look at the larger version of the shot you should be able to see the Nevada Fall in the center with the smaller Vernal Fall underneath to the left.  Half Dome is off to the far left, and the full moon, having risen not long before this was taken, is off to the right. This is just one corner of Glacier point as the entire Yosemite Valley is spread out across the front of the viewing area.  Even though I spent several hours shooting from here, I will definitely need to make a return visit soon.
