Elaphe guttata rosacea - a photo on Flickriver

            This varient of a Corn Snake is only found in the lower keys (west of the 7-mile bridge).  This group was recognized as a distinct subspecies in the past but is now considered the same as mainland Corn Snakes.  This group mostly lacks black but some can be seen around blotches and a little is left on the venter.  This reduced black does vary as we have observed specimens that resemble animals on the main land.  This specimen is about as "pure" to what most Rosy Ratsnakes are supposed to look like as adult but it is on the prettier side of the spectrum.  It seems to be rare for us to find adults and this likely represents the best live find of the keys portion of the trip.
