Sanyou CY6500 01 China 2019-03-27

A Sanyou CY6500 photographed in Changchun, Jilin province, China.

Thanks to Andrew and his Guess the car pic (www.flickr.com/photos/carspotterandrew98/23639307394/), I remember that I wanted to talk about an interesting vehicle in the same category : SUVized pick-up.

This kind of vehicle is not so rare in China. Lots of small companies produced dozen of cheap copy of Isuzu TF pick-up and made also several SUV version based on this.

General Motors produced a similar vehicle for the South American market with the LUV Wagon / Grand LUV.

Back to the vehicle : Sanyou (三友 - Sānyǒu) is the Chinese name of a Thai company called Sammitr.
Sammitr is a large automobile supplier specialized in parts for pick-ups and trucks.
In Europe, Sammitr exports different canopies for pick-ups.

They have a factory in Changchun since 1992 when they became supplier for FAW and FAW-VW JV.

Apparently they also produced this vehicle - called CY6500 - based on Nissan D21.
This Nissan was produced in Thailand and in China (in Zhengzhou by Zhengzhou (Dongfeng)-Nissan JV).

On this vehicle, I saw some Nissan logo on windows, so Sammitr probably assembled the vehicle and add an hard canopy in its Changchun factory.
It's quite unclear, informations at that time are quite rare.

I saw 2 other vehicles similar to this. There weren't any badge on the first and the second wore a Nissan logo.

The D22 generation got also a SUV version, but officially produced by Zhengzhou Nissan.
