Dunnottar Castle

            Dunnottar Castle is located upon a rocky headland 3km south of Stonehaven. There is a 14th century tower house, with most of the other surviving buildings being from the 15th and 16th centuries. Dunnottar has played a prominent role in the history of Scotland due to its strategic location and defensive strength. It is best known as the place where the “Honours of Scotland”, the Scottish crown jewels, were hidden from Oliver Cromwell's invading army in the 17th century.
