Holgate Windmill around 1900 - a photo on Flickriver

Holgate Windmill around 1900

            A model of Holgate Windmill on display on the bin floor of the mill. It was made by a trustee of the Preservation Society, and depicts the mill around 1900, when it was still working productively. The sails are facing west and the miller's house and granary are shown in their correct positions. Close to the mill is an external steam engine, providing power to drive the mill when there was little or no wind.

The outbuildings were demolished some years after the mill stopped working in 1933, to allow for the construction of the houses which surround the mill today.
