Welsh Highland Railway Beddgelert - a photo on Flickriver

            NG/G16 Number 87 at the head of the 9.30 Porthmadoc to Caernarfon at Beddgelert  on 12th August 2011. The NG/G16s are the largest and amongst the most powerful steam locomotives ever built for 2ft gauge and were originally designed for work in South Africa. The WHR is home to four members of this class, 87, 138, 140 and 143. The latter three arrived in Wales in 1997, and are all from the same batch built by Beyer Peacock in 1958. 87, from an earlier batch, followed in 2006.The Welsh Highland Railway is a narrow gauge steam railway with trains running on rails with a gauge of 24 inches or 600mm. The Welsh Highland Railway now runs for 25 miles in Wales and the journey from Porthmadoc to Caernarfon will take 2 hours 45 minutes.
