P0000400 Lonsdale Quay Pier Sunrise - 11-May-2019

            The B.A.P. Unión, a Peruvian ship, arrived this Thursday (09-May-2019) to commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations between Canada and Peru.

The tall ship — a traditional sailing vessel — serves as a training ship for Peruvian naval cadets. That country's government says it is the second largest training ship in the world.

The ship has 34 sails, and has a total sail area of more than 3,400 square metres. It houses 243 crew members.

We took the opportunity to photograph this magnificent vessel in the early morning light, with the Vancouver skyline in the backdrop under the glowing streaks of high clouds just catching the pink glow.

I was set up at one end of this little bridge on what's called the Spirit Trail, which resembles more of a construction site these days.

What I assume is the remains of and an older dilapidated pier makes for some nice foreground interest during high tide.

The recommended lens here would be a wide to super wide angle, but in my case that was only needed because of the high masts of the ship, if only shooting for the skyline, I would recommend stitching a panorama using a standard focal length instead.
