GOES-U ABI Prepared for Integration with Spacecraft

            Engineers prepare the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) instrument that will fly on NOAA’s GOES-U satellite for lifting into place for installation on the spacecraft. 

ABI is the primary instrument on GOES-U for imaging the Western Hemisphere’s weather, oceans and environment. The ABI views Earth with 16 channels including two visible channels, four near-infrared channels, and ten infrared channels. Each channel provides specific information on various elements of Earth’s surface or atmosphere, such as trees, water, clouds, moisture, and smoke.

GOES-U, the final satellite in the GOES-R Series, is planned for launch in 2024.
