Hochofen Hendrichshütte Hattingen - a photo on Flickriver

            Hier befinden wir uns ganz oben auf ca. 40m Höhe auf dem einzigen noch verbliebenen Hochofen der Hendrichshütte Hattingen. Dieser Hochofen wurde bis in die 80iger Jahre hinein betrieben. Von hier oben hat man als Besucher einen guten Überblick über das einstmals riesige Gelände. Heute ein Museum des Landschaftsverbandes Westfalen-Lippe, gehörte die Hochofenanlage einst zur Maschinenfabrik Henschel, die hier u.a.Gleise und Teile für die bekannten Lokomotivserien dieser Marke produzierte. An dieser Stelle  konnte es vorkommen, dass giftige Gase aus dem laufenden Hochofen entwischen. Arbeiter, die "Gas abgekriegt hatten" wie es dort genannt wurde, konnten sich rasch in Lebensgefahr befinden. Entsprechende Warnhinweise sind hier überall vorhanden.

Here we are standing on top of the last remaining blast furnace of the industrial plant Henrichshütte Hattingen at about 40m height. The once huge plant operated the furnaces till the 80ies. The mark Henschel once produced parts for engines and wheel tracks here. At this point you see here it sometimes happened that workers got toxic gases from the operating furnace which could be a really serious injury.
