A Red Emerald Sunrise - a photo on Flickriver

After catching a brilliant sunset, my weather app tells me that the next sunrise might be just as impressive. So we made the easy decision to stick around the Lake Tahoe area overnight. The next morning, I got up before dawn and headed over to Emerald Bay. What greeted me was a blood red pre-dawn sky!

For this shot, I used a 3 stop reverse graduated ND filter to hold back the sky. It was still pretty dark, and the resulting exposure time gave clouds some movement. After a few images, the wind really picked up, and the lake surface turned from mirror like into ripples. I was satisfied though; Lake Tahoe has been pretty good to us.
