Karl Friedrich Schinkel - ein Leben für seinen König

Karl Friedrich Schinkel ( * 13. März 1781 in Neuruppin; † 9. Oktober 1841 in Berlin )
war ein preußischer Architekt, Stadtplaner, Maler, Grafiker und Bühnenbildner, der den Klassizismus in Preußen entscheidend mitgestaltete. Als Leiter der Oberbaudeputation unterstand ihm eine Revisionsabteilung, die fast alle staatlichen Bauvorhaben für das Königreich Preußen in ökonomischer, funktionaler und ästhetischer Hinsicht überprüfte.

Schinkel war Oberlandesbaudirektor und Architekt des Königs Friedrich des Großen. Seine Bauwerke prägen heute noch das Stadtbild der Mitte Berlins. Nach ihm wurde die Schinkelschule benannt, bei der es sich um mehrere Generationen von Architekten handelt, die unter seinem stilbildenden Einfluss standen.

Schinkel fue el más destacado arquitecto del neoclasicismo en Alemania, siendo uno de los artífices de la ciudad de Berlín en su periodo prusiano. Como jefe del departamento de obras del Estado prusiano y arquitecto de la familia real, diseño la mayoría de los edificios importantes de la época en Berlín.

Sus obras y proyectos ejercieron una notable influencia en numerosos arquitectos del movimiento moderno.
