Meet PSC (Plastic Spray Cap )
A Blueberry hermit crab (Coenobita purpureus)
Using a plastic spray cap (PSC) as a protective home.
Location: Yomitan, Okinawa

The blueberry hermit crab made the switch into a silver mouth turbo shell (Miller #119). Hermit crabs do not prefer plastic they are just adapting with what is available. This is a good example of Adaptive behavior. Would you like to see video clips or the hermit crabs making the switch?

Every hermit crab found adapting with our waste receives a new home (seashell). I bring a bucket with an assortment of shells with me on my beach hikes. The hermit crabs are placed in the bucket and make the switch (mts4n). They get a better home and I keep the plastic
