Tren de ácido sulfúrico Bilbao Mercancías-Villafría en Katadiano a cargo de la 256.112

            Acababa de llegar a Pancorbo y como tantas otras veces estaba desolado ante un panoráma meteorológico infinitamente peor de lo que anunciaban todas las previsiones.  Instintivamente consulté mi cuenta de WhatsApp y en uno de los muchos grupos en los que participo se anunciaba la salida de este tren desde Bilbao Mercancías. No me lo pensé ni un minuto y volví sobre mis pasos hasta Subijna-Morillas porque me parecía el mejor sitio para fotografiar este tren. Sin embargo, a mi llegada pude comprobar que la hegemonía de las nubes era manifiesta  por lo que opté por seguir hasta Katadiano donde el cielo se encontraba casi despejado. Con mucha parsimonia, eliminé maleza y ramas secas con mis inseparables tijeras de podar hasta que la señal  situada en ese punto cambió a verde. Regresé al coche y me subí en el estribo de la puerta del copiloto para ganar altura y comprobar los resultados de mi improvisada labor de jardinería. Satisfecho, me bajé del estribo del coche dispuesto a tomarme las cosas con calma porque una señal en verde no garantiza, ni mucho menos, la inminente llegada de un tren. Desde que llegué a Katadiano, las nubes habían ido aumentando a pasos agigantados y cada minuto que pasaba sin que apareciera el mercancías iba reduciendo las posibilidades de hacer una foto con sol. Transcurrieron unos interminables veinte minutos hasta que oí el lejano pitido de la 256 que, pese a que había anunciado su presencia, todavía tardó otros dos o tres minutos hasta que se puso al alcance de la cámara justo en el momento en que las sombras se habían adueñado de mi agarrotado cogote. Al . final, foto con sol pero por cuestión de menos de diez segundos. ¿Conseguiré algún día hacer una foto que no me altere la tensión y sin estar marcada por un innecesario dramatismo? Lo dudo. 

I had just arrived in Pancorbo and, like so many other times, I was devastated by a meteorological panorama infinitely worse than all the forecasts announced. Instinctively I checked my WhatsApp account and in one of the many groups in which I participate the departure of this train from Bilbao Mercancías was announced. I didn't think about it for a minute and I retraced my steps to Subijna-Morillas because it seemed like the best place to photograph this train. However, upon my arrival I could see that the hegemony of the clouds was evident, so I chose to continue to Katadiano where the sky was almost clear. Very slowly, I removed weeds and dead branches with my inseparable pruning shears until the sign at that point turned green. I returned to the car and climbed on the passenger door step to gain height and check the results of my improvised gardening work. Satisfied, I got off the running board of the car ready to take things easy because a green signal does not guarantee, in the least, the imminent arrival of a train. Since I arrived in Katadiano, the clouds had been increasing by leaps and bounds and every minute that passed without the freight appearing reduced the chances of taking a sunny photo. An endless twenty minutes passed until I heard the distant beep of the 256 which, although it had announced its presence, still took another two or three minutes until it came into camera range just as the shadows had fallen taking over my stiff neck. In the end, photo with sun but by a margin of less than ten seconds. Will I ever be able to take a photo that doesn't upset my tension and without being marked by unnecessary drama? I doubt it.
