Quebrada de Humahuaca: paisaje desde Tilcara 2

            "Quebrada de Humahuaca es un profundo y angosto surco de origen tectónico-fluvial ubicado en Jujuy, en el noroeste argentino.

La quebrada está recorrida por el río Grande, subafluente del río Paraguay. Pertenece a la subregión de la Cordillera Oriental, y se encuentra limitada por dos cordones: el occidental y el oriental.

Presenta un marcado rumbo norte-sur, siendo cada vez mayor la altura hacia el norte. Por esto se la considera una vía de acceso natural hacia la Puna, función con la que fue utilizada desde tiempos precolombinos.

La Quebrada de Humahuaca fue declarada Patrimonio Cultural y Natural de la Humanidad en julio de 2003 por la Unesco, por ser una combinacion de maravillosos paisajes, los numerosos caseríos, pueblos y ciudades que conservan muchos vestigios precolombinos y coloniales, como así también su milenaria cultura omaguaca. También hay sitios como el paraje de "Inca Cueva" (nombre relativamente moderno) donde se hallaron señales (petroglifos, piedras talladas, etc.) cuya antigüedad se estima en 10 milenios.

En la Quebrada de Humahuaca, todavía existen los descendientes de los antiguos pobladores, autodenominados pueblos originarios, y habitan coexistiendo con la naturaleza, la Pacha Mama (Madre Tierra) el dios del trueno el rayo y todos los seres vivos a los cuales respetan. "The Quebrada de Humahuaca is a narrow mountain valley located in the province of Jujuy in northwest Argentina, 1,500 km (932 mi) north of Buenos Aires (23°11′59″S 65°20′56″W﻿ / ﻿23.19972°S 65.34889°W﻿ / -23.19972; -65.34889). It is about 155 km (96 mi) long, oriented north-south, bordered by the Altiplano in the west and north, by the Sub-Andean hills in the east, and by the warm valleys (Valles Templados) in the south.
The name quebrada (literally "broken") translates as a deep valley or ravine. It receives its name from Humahuaca, a small city of 11,000 inhabitants. The Grande River (Río Grande), which is dry in winter, flows copiously through the Quebrada in the summer.

The region has always been a crossroads for economic, social and cultural communication. It has been populated for 10,000 years, since the settlement of the first hunter-gatherers, which is evidenced by substantial prehistoric remains. It was a caravan road for the Inca Empire in the 15th century, then an important link between the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata and the Viceroyalty of Peru, as well as a stage for many battles of the Argentine War of Independence.
