Watts second wife Mary Fraser Tyler designed this most pleasing "Romanesque cum Arts and Crafts" chapel on the hill not far from their home at "Limnerslease" nearby, (limner meaning painter, lease to glean.) The Chapel is an extraodinary building replete with forceful art nouveau/Arts and Crafts designs both within and without carried out in bold terracotta brick and tile . Its south porch is reminiscent of the Celtic designs found at Kilpeck, no less remarkable is that 74 villagers took part in contributing tiles to its construction. Her husband G.F.Watts who lived to see its inception paid for the chapel, he is buried along with Mary just above it on the hillside where a further arcade backs the cemetery. watts contributed his last complete canvas as the reredos to the altar "The All Pervading" a work barely dry at the time of his death. It shows the artist who lived to 1904 moving well towards a far more satisfying form of abstraction when expressing his ideas about God and man's place in the universe, rather like "The Sower of The Systems" a painting that was the artist's attempt to paint divinity in an unconventional way. Watt's painting in the chapel sits remarkably snugly inside the "Circle of Eternity" built about the central cross of faith. The design is ambitious it has a folk art quality very different to that of Watts' often scholarly designs, and due to the collective nature of the chapel's construction the work somehow harks back to medieval collectivism and one can find links with the Romanesque work back in the village parish church.
