Got a match?

            A tree lopper about to prune one of my Spotted Gums. No ladders, no cherry pickers. A catapault is used to shoot a small sack of lead shot over a target tree fork, dragging a light string behind it. A heavy duty rope is then attached to the string, dragged up and over the fork and then anchored securely to the ground. A worker then climbs the tree, armed with additional ropes, carabiners and a small chain saw. Once safely installed in the canopy, another rope is attached to the branch to be removed with the lower end of that rope held securely by a work mate on the ground. The branch is then severed and slowly lowered to the ground, to be cut into logs for firewood or converted to woodchip mulch in a chipping machine nearby. Meanwhile the climber descends to the next branch and repeats the exercise until all the target branches are removed. Fascinating to watch!
