i want to hold your hand - a photo on Flickriver

"I want to hold your hand" ("Voglio tenerti la mano") è un brano dei Beatles scritto da Lennon e McCartney. Il brano venne pubblicato come side A del singolo I Want to Hold Your Hand / This Boy (il singolo dei Beatles più venduto in assoluto).
"I want to hold your hand" come alcuni altri singoli dei Beatles non è stato estratto da nessun album allo scopo di promuoverlo, ma è un prodotto musicale autonomo e per questo motivo è stato incluso, successivamente, in molte raccolte.
L'intuizione melodica del brano venne a Lennon sentendo l'accordo in Si minore eseguito da Paul a conclusione di una prima versione della canzone; Lennon, come spiegò lui stesso in un'intervista anni dopo, al sentire l'accordo fu colto da un'enorme entusiasmo e gridò le celebri parole: "Eccolo, è lui! Rifallo!".
Fu registrato anche in una versione in tedesco, Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand.
Questa canzone segnò il primo di una lunga serie di incredibili incidenti interpretativi dei testi: Bob Dylan, sentendo il brano, si convinse che le parole "I can't hide" suonassero invece "I get high", espressione che in slang anglossassone significava essere sotto l'effetto di stupefacenti.
