Elle s’appelait Neige
Comme d’autres se nomment Blanche, Louise ou Jennifer

L’été, je la trouvais souvent assise sur ce banc de parc, un livre à la main, perdue dans ses rêveries.

L’hiver, vêtue de noir et d’un petit foulard rouge - seule coquetterie qu’elle s’autorisait- elle s’asseyait sur le même banc et regardait tomber la neige, l’oeil émerveillé comme si elle assistait à un tout nouveau spectacle.

Un jour, intrigué, je lui ai demandé pourquoi elle revenait s’assoir sur ce banc au milieu notre rude hiver?  

Elle me répondit que c’est sous la neige que ce pays retrouve son mystère essentiel, cette magie chantée dans de si belles chansons. 

Assis tous les deux côte-à-côte au milieu de ces arbres dénudés, squelettiques, j’ai eu soudainement l’impression que les flocons de neige que nous regardions, ressemblaient à des notes de musique, rythmés par le vent dans le profond silence de notre monde blanc. C’était donc ça la magie de Neige!

Her name was Neige,
Like others are called Blanche, Louise or Jennifer.
 
In the summer, I often found her sitting on a bench in the park, a book in her hand, lost in her daydreams.

In winter, dressed in black and a little red scarf - the only coquetry she allowed herself  - she sat on the same bench and watched the snow fall, her eyes marvelling as if she were witnessing a brand new show.

One day, intrigued, I asked her why she came back to sit on this bench in the middle of our harsh winter?

She replied that it is under the snow that this country finds its essential mystery, this magic sung in such beautiful songs.

Sitting side by side in the middle of these bare, skeletal trees, I suddenly had the impression that the snowflakes we were looking at looked like musical notes, punctuated by the wind in the deep silence of our white world. So that was the magic of Neige!

Her name was Neige, as other call themselves Blanche, Louise or Jennifer.
