'Bethnal Green Road, E2, near the junction with Sclater Street.
This sculpture was erected as part of the Bethnal Green City Challenge Research Programme.
It was made by a brother and sister, who used a century-old rope to make it. It was intended as a reminder of the connection of the area with the garment and textile industries, or with what the local inhabitants used to call "The Rag Trade".'
