Dunlin at Charwell Point in the Monarch Point Conservation Reserve | Calidris alpina | Bécasseau variable

            A Dunlin this morning at Charwell Point on the northeastern shore of Lake Ontario and the south shore of Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada. 

The location is now protected within the newly proclaimed Monarch Point Conservation Reserve, the creation of which is a huge victory for the environment. Big thanks to the local activists who made it happen.

The little sandpiper should really be gone south now. The scene looks fairly idyllic but it was -9C overnight and this was the one area of open water still available at Charwell providing shorebird habitat. 

My hands were freezing as I worked awkwardly with the camera but once again, pointing the lens in the direction of the bird and snapping tons and tons of images came up with a result I am happy with.
